Today at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Cisco Jasper team and partners focused on IoT security and the need for companies adopting IoT technologies to develop effective strategies that address varying levels of risk.

Security concerns affect every player and every layer in the IoT ecosystem. Before stepping onto the panel of the GSMA’s ‘Enabling IoT Security’ conference, Macario Namie, Head of IoT Strategy at Cisco Jasper, shed some light on security ownership: “IoT security takes a village. No one provider covers everything.” Namie explained how everyone in the value chain plays a critical role in making an IoT business secure: from device manufacturers, application developers and platform providers, such as Cisco Jasper, all the way through to the customer.

“IoT security is important for our customers and it’s always been a focus for our company,” added Sara Perry, Director Strategic Alliances at Cisco Jasper. She noted that since the acquisition, Cisco Jasper has expanded the with network, application and device security capabilities of the Control Center IoT platform.

Throughout the day, we asked MWC participants about their views on IoT security. During the “man on the street” interviews, we heard a range of voices express both concern and excitement about the future of IoT security, including topics such as biometrics, thumbprint and iris verification.

At Cisco Jasper, we understand that comprehensive IoT security is more than one single solution. For instance, a connected car or IoT-enabled industrial robot needs very different safeguards than a smart thermostat or home automation system. Cisco Jasper Control Center is a robust connectivity management platform that provides multi-layered security to protect IoT devices, data transport, and cloud applications.

In many ways, IoT security is a little like keeping fit. It’s an ongoing exercise, not a crash diet. “You have to practice it every single day,” concluded Namie.
