At this week’s Cisco Live! event we had the unique opportunity to speak with 28,000 dedicated IT and networking professionals from around the world. Cisco’s annual event brings together the industry’s best and brightest to discuss how technology is enabling them to transform their businesses.

And to say the conversations at this year’s show were especially exciting would be an understatement. Cisco has long been at the center of enabling IT and networking professionals transform industries and drive real business results, and now we’re ushering in an entirely new era of networking and IoT.

To begin, last week Cisco announced a major evolution to the Cisco Digital Network Architecture (DNA) that brings intent-based management solutions and services to businesses. It introduces greater network protection and flexibility than ever before, while enabling businesses to mine their data for even better business insights and action.

This new era in networking is being driven, in part, by the billions of new IoT devices connecting to the network. The connectivity of those devices needs to be automated and managed, and the data generated by them put to work where and when it will deliver the greatest value.

To that end, at this week’s event, we made two big announcements.

The Next Generation of IoT Innovation

On Tuesday we launched Cisco Jasper Control Center 7.0, the most significant evolution in the history of our IoT connectivity management platform. With Control Center 7.0, we’ve introduced a new multi-tier model – along with first-of-their kind Premium Services – that gives our customers and our service provider partners the flexibility to implement the IoT capabilities and services that are right for them, no matter what stage of their IoT journey they’re in.

We also introduced Cisco Kinetic, a brand new IoT operations platform, which unlocks the power of IoT data, and makes it faster and easier for companies across industries to take their IoT initiatives from proof-of-concept to meaningful business results. Cisco Kinetic does this by delivering a combination of capabilities that address critical IoT challenges faced by companies today – connection management, fog computing, and data delivery.

And we provided an update on our partnership with IBM, as we expand customer engagements on a variety of use cases, including early successes together in the Smart City market.

IoT in Action

Throughout the show, the power of IoT was on full display. In Chuck Robbins’ opening keynote, he highlighted how Chevron has implemented Cisco’s IoT operations platform to optimize well production. Across main stage presentations, breakout sessions and fireside chats, Cisco IoT executives and special guests – including Mike Troiano, VP of IoT Solutions at AT&T and Vicente Munoz, Chief IoT Officer at Telefonica Group – provided insights into how IoT is transforming the business landscape, and showed customers how Control Center 7.0 could enable them to accelerate their path to the business outcomes they care most about.

Attendees also had access to live, hands-on demos of Control Center 7.0 and Cisco Kinetic, giving them a chance to experience for themselves how we’re enabling new connected car business models, bringing retailers closer to their customers, connecting cities, helping deliver life-saving roadway safety services and more.

After an action-packed week at Cisco Live!, one fact remains clear – IT and networking professionals are committed to becoming the change agents their businesses need to capitalize on the promise of IoT. Cisco is continuing to enable that change and accelerating their success.
